Whether urban courtyards, sensory gardens, roof terraces, or large country estates, we aim to create timeless outdoor spaces where people can rebuild the heartbeat of the human connection.
You may have recently moved house and wish to improve the outdoor space, or have placed your property on the market for sale but have difficulty attracting the right type of buyers. Perhaps you have children that are (finally) leaving the nest and would like to reclaim your territory. If you have engaged an architect to build a new house or extend an existing one, this would be an ideal time to bring us on board.
We work very similarly to a building architect. Our fee scale is based on a percentage of the contract costs and range from 4-22% depending on the size of the project. It is important to treat the garden as a financial investment and budget a realistic figure.
“The building of family relationships and special memories in the garden, it’s always a privilege to hear from clients of the part we had in their lives.”
Like fingerprints, each garden project is unique. The creative process is straightforward and involves the following elements:.
Initial Consultation on Site
This enables us to get a sense of the place and the needs of its users, in particular any difficult areas you wish to address. A written brief forms the basis for further discussion. There is a small charge for this initial visit, which will be offset against the design work should you decide to proceed.
A site survey will be commissioned from surveyors or carried out by our office, depending on availability and size of the project. This will form the basis for design proposals and discussion.
From the collected information we develop conceptual proposals for discussion and further development in consultation with you. This usually takes the form of hand-rendered plans.
Detail Construction specifications
Following discussions and further development of the design, we prepare specifications and drawings in sufficient detail to build and plant the landscape. These documents will form the basis for inviting the contractors to quote and fix a budget for the project.
Construction documents are sent to selected firms whose workmanship and professionalism are well proven, and the successful tender of your choice will proceed with the contract.
We can take a more advisory approach, where there is an existing effective on-site team. Alternatively, we can provide a full contract administration service and act as liaison between client and contractor, approve payment to the contractor and sign off on the work at its conclusion.
Planting your garden
We supply plants of the highest quality and at competitive prices from carefully selected nurseries. Planting plans are produced for the entire garden, or specific areas, showing the species of plants recommended and their positioning and spacing.
Construction and planting may be phased over months or years on larger projects. When this work is completed we hand over the garden for adoption by its owners, but remain as advisors to steer its growth into maturity.
